The unique design of Houston generates asymmetrical air flow of the convex sides of the canopy, thereby receiving an ascending forced optimised profile. This results to a horizontal speed after opening which creates a lift and significantly improves the sink rate.

The pilot can steer the parachute through the system of handles and can avoid potential obstacles during the descent. An emergency landing field can be precisely approached with a glide ratio of app. 1:1,5.

Without use of the steering handles the rescue works like any other classic rescue parachute. There are no disadvantages for the HOUSTON compared with conventional square shape canopies. The rescue system HOUSTON opens and works without pre-braking and therefore the system remains very easy to handle and is reliable.

The packing of the HOUSTON is not more time-consuming or more complex than for a normal square shape canopy.

HOUSTON 160 is suitable for heavier powered pilots. Max. load 160 kg by sink rate 4,8 m/s

    • How much is training?
Great question! A full course is $2500 if you are purchasing equipment through us. Or if you want to rent equipment for training the course is $3500.
    • Do you have to complete the 10 days consecutively?
We understand that not everyone can take 10 days off to learn to fly, so we allow you to make a schedule with us to complete the course. The class does however has to be completed within 90 days from the commencement of your course.
    • How long does it take to complete a training course?
Our class takes 10 days to complete and includes the 25 flights needed to graduate with your PPG 1 certificate.
    • Where are classes held?
Houston PPG is fortunate to be situated along the picturesque Texas Gulf Coast. Our classes are conducted in diverse locations, including the free beach at Surfside Beach and San Luis Pass. These strategic locations provide ample opportunities for comprehensive training, leveraging the laminar winds emanating from the water. This environment offers a profound understanding and knowledge of your glider's responsiveness during flight.
    • If I previously had training elsewhere, but need additional training or a refresher course, can I do so?
At times, life may lead us away from this exhilarating sport, and individuals may find themselves in need of a refresher. Whether you are seeking to reacquaint yourself with the fundamentals or transitioning to flying in higher wind conditions not typically encountered inland, we provide refresher courses. These sessions offer personalized one-on-one instruction via communication systems to ensure you regain proficiency and confidence in your flying abilities.
